“Every picture tells a story.” This old saying puts into words what I strive to accomplish in my travel photography. I make pictures to tell stories about the lives of the people I encounter in my travels.
Most of my travel photography is street photography, candid photos of people in the street as well as other public places. Street photography involves not just photos of people, but shows people in the context of their surroundings, giving the viewer a glimpse into their lives. I use both single photographs and photomontages to tell their stories. My current exhibit of street photography from Colombia shows people working, playing, socializing, and just having fun – hopefully dispelling some of the current perceptions of Colombia as an unsafe or scary place to visit.
Through the process of story telling via photography, I feel I grow as a person by expanding my world view and developing an understanding of how much people everywhere have in common. I hope to impart a sense of this commonality among people to all those who view my work.
